And fasting 6 days of Shawwal is equivalent to fasting 2 months of the year, together they make up a whole year. So, whoever observes these fasts (30 of Ramadan and 6 of Shawwal) earns the reward of fasting the whole year. Makes up for the deficiencies that occurred in the Ramadan Sunnah of our Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) provide a lot of ease for us. If a Muslim conducts some kind of mistake in the performance of obligatory prayers, sunnah prayers make up for it. Thus, in the same way, 6 days of Sunnah fasting of Shawwal cover up for all of the deficiencies of obligatory fasts of Ramadan. Sign of Acceptance and Forgiveness Fasting 6 days in Shawwal is a matter of great happiness for a Muslim. Because it’s the sign of acceptance of one’s Ramadan. It’s a simple concept; when Allah Almighty accepts our worship, He blesses us to engage in further acts of piety. An ultimate blessing The performance of Sunnah is another pathway to get closer to Allah almighty. It has been narrated in the Holy Quran, the meaning of which is that obedience of Muhammad (SAWW) is the obedience of Allah Almighty. And whoever loves Muhammad (SAWW) loves Allah Almighty. Hence, Allah Almighty not only Loves such a person but also forgives him/her. As he is the most forgiving and merciful. (Surah Aal-Imran 3:31). However, there was no luck. The thirst of Ismail (AS) intensified so much that he started rubbing his heels on the ground. By the will of Allah Almighty, miraculously, a spring of freshwater broke out of nowhere. The flow of water was powerful and everlasting such that Hazrat Hajar had to say “Zam Zam” which means stop flowing in order to cease the flow of water. That’s how the water got its name Zamzam.
