The Messenger of God mentioned the importance of physical fitness, so that's why people who are financially capable but physically have lack are not allowed to perform the major or minor pilgrimages. Because the Prophet of God said that Muslim who is both financially and physically capable should visit the Holy Kaabah once in life. The more physically task for pilgrims it is to perform the rituals of Hajj or Umrah. Undoubtedly, Hajj requires a lot of walking and it is recommended to walk at least six months before traveling to Hajj or Umrah.
Pilgrims should visit their doctor four to six weeks before traveling to make sure enough time for vaccinations to become effective. They ensure that they are directed the necessary vaccinations for Hajj. They have to take vaccination cards with them on their whole journey. The travel agent for Hajj or Umrah is also needed a copy. PRIVATE FIRST AID KIT Pilgrims should have a personal first aid kit that will be useful in case of minor health emergencies. And the Sunnah of eating during the journey is maximum 1/3 food and 1/3 liquid. • You must take care of your back because if there is no luggage trolley offered then suitcases will need to be carried by hand. So, don't take unnecessary clothing and other items and purchase a wheel contains suitcase. As injury normally takes two to three weeks to improve which can disturb the rituals of Hajj. It is advisable that take extra care by avoiding sitting in uncomfortable positions and taking care not to twist or bend uncomfortably particularly those who have back problem. • Have medicines for treatment during traveling in your hand luggage but keep requirements of the airline like limits on the volume of liquids because needles or liquids may require a letter from GP confirming the medication needs to be administered during the flight. Thus, it is suggested to take an extra food supply in your hand luggage in case of delays. • During the whole journey you will have to spend maximum times on coaches, airplanes and possibly trains and it may cause neck strain which can adversely affect your Hajj or Umrah. To prevent from neck strain you should purchase an inflatable neck pillow when you want to relax or sleep during the journey. FOR WOMEN • Women in the menstrual cycle are not allowed to perform some aspects of Hajj or Umrah such as Tawaf. Women can delay their menstrual cycle by taking the hormone-based capsule. Such medication improves the stamina levels and reduces the risk of injury. • Pregnant women should check their GP and if it is fit to travel then the airline will allow them to travel to and bring them back from Saudi Arabia at their stage of pregnancy. Yet obtaining a letter from GP to confirm pregnancy status is preferable.
