Every month of the Islamic year has its own significance, virtues, and rewards. However, some months remain more superior; Moharram, Safar, Rabi' al-awwal, Ramadan, Rajab, Shawwal, Shaban, Dhul Hijjah.
Ramadan is the most sacred month of the Islamic Year in this regard. It’s the month of blessings and forgiveness. For this reason, the majority of Muslims travel to Makkah through their Package for Umrah, especially in Ramadan, for the performance of lesser pilgrimage. Fasting throughout the 30 days of Ramadan, consecutively, is the 3rd pillar of Islam. These fasts are obligatory on every Muslim; rich or poor, but who are not physically or mentally able. After the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, fasting 6 days of Shawwal, the next month, also possess a great significance in Islam. Here’s why. Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) Fasting 6 days of Shawwal isn’t an obligation but a Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). Thus, holds great significance for Muslims. The virtues of these fasts are exceptionally beautiful. Due to which, it has been recommended in Islam to observe the 6 fasts of Shawwal after the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. The reward of Fasting the Whole Year In the light of Hadith of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW), fasting the month of Ramadan is equivalent to fasting 10 months of the year. And fasting 6 days of Shawwal is equivalent to fasting 2 months of the year, together they make up a whole year. So, whoever observes these fasts (30 of Ramadan and 6 of Shawwal) earns the reward of fasting the whole year. Makes up for the deficiencies that occurred in the Ramadan Sunnah of our Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) provide a lot of ease for us. If a Muslim conducts some kind of mistake in the performance of obligatory prayers, sunnah prayers make up for it. Thus, in the same way, 6 days of Sunnah fasting of Shawwal cover up for all of the deficiencies of obligatory fasts of Ramadan. Sign of Acceptance and Forgiveness Fasting 6 days in Shawwal is a matter of great happiness for a Muslim. Because it’s the sign of acceptance of one’s Ramadan. It’s a simple concept; when Allah Almighty accepts our worship, He blesses us to engage in further acts of piety. An ultimate blessing The performance of Sunnah is another pathway to get closer to Allah almighty. It has been narrated in the Holy Quran, the meaning of which is that obedience of Muhammad (SAWW) is the obedience of Allah Almighty. And whoever loves Muhammad (SAWW) loves Allah Almighty. Hence, Allah Almighty not only Loves such a person but also forgives him/her. As he is the most forgiving and merciful. (Surah Aal-Imran 3:31). Fasting 6 days of Shawwal is the perfect opportunity for a person to get closer to Allah Almighty. It blesses a person with rewards from Allah Almighty that are much beneficial and fruitful, here as well as in the afterworld.
